Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 Review

Now that you’ve heard my thoughts on the new Viltrox 75mm f/1.2, feel free to kick your feet up and browse through some image samples below.

First we’ll start out with a beautiful wedding, where this lens did some just Amazing work!

And speaking of weddings, here’s the highlights reel from that wedding, where about 50% of the shots were made with the Viltrox 75. Keep in mind this was shot mostly handheld, as I was doing hybrid coverage that day (mostly focused on photos). The 75 is a bit tricky to stabilize that way, as the 112.5mm focal length is too much for Sony IBIS to do a good job on.

Then it’s off to the park for some theatre! Shakespeare in the Park by Hubcity Theatre performing Romeo & Juliet. The 112.5mm equivalent focal length was great for getting tighter shots off the stage without risking getting stabbed in the action. And due to its significant advantage in sharpness over the 70-200 f/4, I ended up with approximately the same or higher level of zoom and apparent resolution in the end. Many of these I cropped manually to a 20mp level then upscaled to 24 (instead of using the built in 15mp crop on the a7iv, since the image circle on this is much larger than APS-C, but not quite full frame).

In this cat’s eye bokeh test I left it uncropped so you can see just how much of an image circle you get. Please keep in mind that although we have significant swirl/footballing even when in APS-C crop mode, it’s not as significant as it appears here uncropped.

Oh let’s just pop back for a Little more wedding action here.
