Viltrox 50mm f/1.8 Review

Now that you’ve heard my thoughts on the Viltrox 50mm f/1.8, let’s go through some higher resolution image samples! Starting out with a motion shoot with black belt martial artist Alison. These are taken using long shutter speeds and rear curtain sync, with a mixture of LED lighting and flash (Sony a7iv and Godox AD600 Pro).

Then we head downtown for a frigid shoot on a -25C day with Roumana on the Sony a7iv.

That morning I also hit the park with Jen for some snowy fun with the pup.

Now for some straight up comparative testing with the Sony Zeiss 55 1.8
First the Zeiss for a baseline, starting at f/1.8, 2.8, 4.0, 5.6, 8, 11, 16

And now onto the Viltrox, same settings:

Alright, let’s zoom in 200% to compare some shots between the Viltrox and the Sony. Metadata can be found at the bottom of each frame. First we do f/1.8 then f/4.0. Center, top right, top left, and plant right.
